James 4:3
Print
Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures.
You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires.
[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
You ask and don’t have because you ask with evil intentions, to waste it on your own cravings.
Or you pray and don’t receive, because you pray with the wrong motive, that of wanting to indulge your own desires.
Yet even when you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.
Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask evilly, that ye may consume [it] in your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive because you ask badly, in order that you may spend it in connection with your pleasures.
You ask, and receive not; because you ask amiss: that you may consume it on your concupiscences.
Or when you ask, you don’t receive anything, because the reason you ask is wrong. You only want to use it for your own pleasure.
Even when you do ask God, you do not receive anything. That is because you ask for the wrong reason. You just want to use these things to make yourselves happy.
You ask, and yet do not receive, because you ask wrongly, so that you may spend it on what gives you pleasure.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
Or when you ask, you do not receive because ·the reason you ask is wrong [or you ask with the wrong motives; L you ask badly/wrongly]. You want things so you ·can use [L spend] them for your own pleasures.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye might lay the same on your pleasures.
When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.
And when you ask, you do not receive it, because your motives are bad; you ask for things to use for your own pleasures.
You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.
Or when you ask, you do not receive because the reason you ask is wrong. You want things only so that you can use them for your own pleasures.
You ask for something but do not get it because you ask for it for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.
But about the feuds and struggles that exist among you—where do you suppose they come from? Can’t you see that they arise from conflicting passions within yourselves? You crave for something and don’t get it, you are jealous and envious of what others have got and you don’t possess it yourselves. Consequently in your exasperated frustration you struggle and fight with one another. You don’t get what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And when you do ask he doesn’t give it to you, for you ask in quite the wrong spirit—you only want to satisfy your own desires.
Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, in order that you may spend it on your pleasures.
And even when you do ask you don’t get it because your whole aim is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. You wouldn’t think of just asking God for it, would you? And why not? Because you know you’d be asking for what you have no right to. You’re spoiled children, each wanting your own way.
You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passions.
You ask and do not receive because you ask for the wrong reason, that you can spend it on · your pleasures.
When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.
You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
When you ask, you do not get what you want because you do not ask for it with the proper motives, seeking rather to indulge your passions.
Or when you ask, you do not receive because the reason you ask is wrong. You want things so you can use them for your own pleasures.
you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions.
When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Or if you do ask, you do not receive because your reasons for asking are wrong. You want these things only to please yourselves.
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
You ask and receive not because you ask amiss, even to consume it upon your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.
And when you do ask, you don’t get it, because you ask wrongly, intending to spend it on your pleasures.
Or you make techinot (petitions) and you do not receive, because you ask wrongly, that on your ta’avot (lusts) you may spend what you receive. [TEHILLIM 18:41; 66:18]
You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, so that you might spend it on your pleasures.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives so you may spend it on your passions.
And when you do ask, you still do not get what you want because your motives are all wrong—because you continually focus on self-indulgence.
You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
You ask for it, but you do not get it, because you ask in a wrong way. You want to use it for yourselves and not for others.
Ye ask, and ye receive not; for that ye ask evil, as ye show openly in your covetings.
ye ask, and ye receive not, because evilly ye ask, that in your pleasures ye may spend [it].
